Dyeing and Printing with Plants

Plants were humanity’s first source of colour, and botanical dyeing remains a skill rooted in tradition, craftsmanship, and care. This project uses botanical pigments, sourced locally from the UK and globally, where plant species often produce brighter, more vibrant hues. All fabrics used are natural, carefully scoured and mordanted to enhance colourfastness and ensure lasting results. For printing, I’ve used Manutex, a seaweed-based binder that aligns with the project’s sustainable ethos, allowing these natural colours to adhere beautifully to cloth without the need for harmful chemicals
