Dyeing and Printing with Algae

Algae is a key source of blue and green colour in natural colours. Pigments I used have been
provided by ScotBio, a local Edinburgh-based company.
Algae offers a regenerative and sustainable alternative to synthetic dyes, with the ability to be
grown and harvested repeatedly. Its pigments can also be overdyed consistently, supporting
the idea of designing to fade- embracing change and transformation in garments over time.
This concept mirrors the fast pace of fashion, but instead of discarding clothing, the same
colours and fabrics can evolve, fade, and be revived, allowing for longevity and continuous
renewal.
